Every muscle in my body hurts! I can’t stand up or sit down without my quads screaming at me. I’m excited about the pain…why? Because I just finished shooting some new jump rope videos on single rope! I got to stare into some very bright lights for 3 days.
We have over 250 gigabytes of raw jump rope footage
I was able to rent my all time favorite studio in Tulsa, OK (Little Mountain Productions if you are in the are and are in need of one to rent). I’ve used their facility multiple times over the years, most notably when I shot Frozen. Their studio is setup so that half is black and half is white. I like using their black half since it looks like you’re standing on a black mirror when filming. The only downside for me (and the reason I am in so much pain) is that it is made of painted concrete. If you’ve never tried it before, shooting a bunch of jump rope videos on concrete is brutal on the body.
I headed over to their facility on Tuesday morning to setup cameras and lighting gear. We quickly got everything into place and started filming my long list of individual jump rope videos that I wanted to put on the site. I had over 90 videos that I wanted to cover in 3 days so we really had to get moving if we were going to finish this project on time. The goal was to reshoot all the videos from the Single Rope Skills section of the site along with a bunch of new jump rope videos that focused on individual jump rope skills.
We worked like mad over 3 ten hour days to get everything done in time. I am happy to say that we finished last night! I have a lot of work to do now with the editing. I shot everything from 2 camera angles. This gives me the option of having both shots on screen at once (close-up view and wide-angle) or to switch between them as needed. Since I have a hard time walking, I will be glad for the chance to sit down to work on the computer for a bit. I will say that all the pain is worth it as you will have access to some great instructional jump rope videos as soon as they are completed! The best part is that they will be uploaded as they are being edited. In the past I would have to spend 6-9 months editing the project, create a DVD master, send that to the printer and then finally have them for sale. I love how Jump Rope Secrets allows me to upload each individual file as they are done. You can start accessing them as they are available on a daily basis.
The History
In case you are interested in why I chose this particular project, here’s the backstory. The very first jump rope videos I produced were the highly regarded ‘Single Rope Skills’ DVD. These videos are featured here at Jump Rope Secrets as I was able to upload that entire DVD to the site. However, the videos are the oldest ones I produced and were shot in Standard Definition since that was the only thing available at the time. I’ve always wanted to re-film that project as I love how much better things look in High-Def. The other issue for me is that I have learned so much about how to shoot top quality jump rope videos since then. That project had a ton of thought a prep put into it, but it was my very first big project. I understand a lot more about lighting, sound and how to teach on camera.
That’s the short version. I’m excited to have the individual jump rope videos available in High-Def. In case you’re wondering, the old jump rope videos aren’t going anywhere. Every video on the site will always be here. When I put up any new version, the old ones will still be available. You can choose to watch either version as some stuff in the original is hard to replace. Stuff like my hair.
